We have a new Assistant Curate!

Meet Benedict Yates, our new Curate!

He comes to us, hot-foot from Winchester Cathedral, where he served as Verger for fifteen years, to train at St Padarn’s Institute, Llandaff  for the ordained ministry of the Church in Wales.  Benedict will begin his curacy in our Ministry Area on Monday, 14th June, after experiencing his first Zoomed Ministry Area Council/Committee Meeting the previous evening.

Benedict is married to Rosie, and they have two children, John and Lucy.  We’ll publish a family photograph when we have  parental permission.

Benedict tells us he numbers reading – mostly history and theology – listening to music, and watching films among his hobbies.  He  enjoys mixing cocktails, and cooking, too, and does ‘a bit of painting’ when he gets a chance.  He also loves watching cricket, but admits his playing skills leave ‘room for improvement’!

He says, “I am greatly looking forward to the opportunity of ministering in the Whitchurch Ministry Area. These have been difficult times. There are many challenges facing us, but as we start to come out of lockdown there is perhaps a sense of freshness and renewal. I am eager to be a part of where this journey leads us, although I am sure it will continue to present a steep learning curve.”

It is a great pleasure to welcome Benedict and his family to our Ministry Area. We look forward to meeting them all and hope they will be very happy living among us.

We now have parental permission to reproduce the Yates’ family photograph, so here it is:

And Benedict is already a Deacon, so he’s Rev’d Benedict Yates.
Sorry – I didn’t realise that.
