A Centenary Message from the Archbishop to the Church of St Thomas
Christ the King 2013
I am delighted to send these words of greeting to you all at St Thomas on this centenary of the church’s dedication. In celebrating the anniversary today on the feast of Christ the King, it is a reminder that the church is here to proclaim the gospel and live by its values. It does this, through faithful witness, generation after generation, to the glory of a God who has promised to raise us to new life. As your patron St Thomas reached out to touch the risen Christ with a sense of wonder and disbelief, he did so in response to the invitation of Jesus to do so. That profound encounter led him from fear and unbelief to ultimate confession: “my Lord and my God”. We are here to reach out to help others search for meaning. I pray that as members of the congregation of St Thomas’ Church, you may continue to be touched by Jesus through the power of His Spirit and that through your continued witness, you may draw others to Christ our light and life.
