Christmas Toy Services – Trudy’s work lives on

Santa's Stash

The funeral service of Trudy Purcell took place on 23rd June this year.
An article on this website  quoted from her funeral tribute:

‘ . . . . . . It was this concern which prompted Trudy to set up the Toy Service scheme in Rhiwbina at Christmas, an initiative which has now spread to all the Benefice churches. Such was the generous response from the congregation that the vans sent by the Social Services to collect the donated toys were invariably loaded to the gunwales! ‘

Well, the van driver has retired, the Social Services no longer provide the vans . . .
but some things do not change.

In tribute to Trudy’s vision,
maintaining the tradition of Christmas Toy Services she established,
and honouring her memory
the generosity of the Whitchurch Benefice is undiminished!

Today we delivered to County Hall a veritable mountain of gifts to fill Santa’s sacks and gladden the hearts and lift the spirits of Cardiff’s needy children this Christmas.
The staff in the Family Services Department based in County Hall
have promised to send us some photographs when Santa  distributes those gifts
on our behalf.
