Becoming a ‘Dementia Friend’: Workshop

Published on 13th February, 2017

Thirty members of the Mothers’ Union
attended the workshop,
which took place in
St Thomas’s Church Hall
after the monthly devotional service on
Monday, 13th February.

Visiting speaker
Mrs Claire Phillips,

of the
Alzheimer Society,
began the session by clarifying some myths and misconceptions
popularly surrounding dementia.
It is not an inevitable concomitant of the ageing process, she said,
and sufferers could, with informed help and understanding support,
continue to lead a full and active life.

As caring members of the community,
we should be able to recognise situations in which dementia was a factor
and be ready to respond with practical, unobtrusive and helpful strategies
