Dragon – reluctant; Children – keen!Published on 15th November, 2015
‘The Reluctant Dragon’
( Text: Kenneth Graham; Music: John Rutter )
Saturday, 14th November, 2014 9am – 2.45pm
St Mary’s Parish Church, Whitchurch.
The atrocious weather conditions outside neither dampened the children’s enthusiasm
nor extinguished the dragon’s ( reluctant ) flames!
An admittedly partisan audience of parents, grandparents, and
members of the general public
( which included Assembly Member Julie Morgan )
gathered at 2pm and listened with great enjoyment to the fruits of the children’s labours.
The workshop, brainchild of Assistant Curate Rev’d Jonathon Wright ( Narrator and chorus tenor ) and Tom Perkins ( tenor )[ aka the Dragon ],
St Mary’s resident Organist and Choirmaster,
was enriched by the voices of soloists from the RWCMD
and by the keyboard accompaniment of
David Butler, Organist and Choirmaster of All Saints’ Church, Rhiwbina.
The Chorus ‘Master’, who trained and led the children, was
Grace Wyatt (soprano). The thrilling tones of Will Stevens ( bass ) made a noble St George, while Sue Welch ( soprano ) became a Boy for the day!
We are also most grateful to Jakob Grubbström ( chorus bass ) and
Robert Aylward-Lopez ( chorus tenor ) for supporting their youthful counterparts. To the casual bystander it appeared that the adult members of the cast enjoyed themselves every bit as much as the children!
All in all it was a delightful, refreshing experience which brightened up
a truly miserable November afternoon.
We all hope this will be the first of many such ventures.
Our thanks to everyone who made it possible.
